beroep : maaldersgast (vermeld bij geboorte dochters 1898 - 1905) kon niet tegen meel en moest dit beroep stopzetten. Startte daarom een groothandel in aardappelen te Merksem (aan Duivelshoek). Deze handel werd later overgenomen door zijn schoonzoon Augustinus De Beckker.

De aardappelen werden met ezel en kar naar de klanten gebracht. Zijn schoonzoon deed het later met paard en kar en nog later met de vrachtwagen.

De aardappelen die bij de boeren werden gekocht werden gesorteerd (frietaardappelen - gewone aardappelen en beschadigde aardappelen voor dierenvoeding 'varkenspatatten')

Zong ook in herbergen tijdens zijn jeugdjaren. Zo leerde hij zijn echtgenote kennen.
gehuwd met : Maria Elisabeth Van Gool.

Hij was helemaal niet godsdienstig aangelegd. Bij een bezoek van de onderpastoor werd die onmiddellijk aan de deur gezet. Wat in die tijd vrij ongebruikelijk was !
