Er zijn geen geboorte- en overlijdensaktes bekend van Willem Wiebes. Er is alleen bekend dat hij de vader is van Frederik van der Veen zonder getrouwd te zijn met de moeder Marijke (Maria) van der Veen. In een discussie op http://forumtresoar.nl/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2482 wordt beweerd dat Wilem eigenlijk geboren is als Ties in 1856 en later een andere voornaam gebruikt.

Willem Wiebes Weening, 21 jarige arbeider wonende in de heide onder Surhuisterveen, staat op 14 maart 1877 voor de rechtbank in Leeuwarden op verdenking van mishandeling. Hij wordt schuldig bevonden en veroordeeld tot een maand gevangenisstraf en een boete.
Op 11 september 1886 staat Willem opnieuw voor de rechter, nu met Sietze Pitstra, op verdenking van diefstal. Hij wordt opnieuw schuldig bevonden en op 25 september veroordeeld tot acht dagen gevangenisstraf.
Op 2 maart 1889 staat Willem voor de rechter met Albert Taekes Alma, oud 50 jaren, beiden wonende te Surhuisterveen, op verdenking van stroperij. Ze worden op 9 maart schuldig bevonden en elk veroordeeld tot zeven dagen gevangenisstraf.
Op 17 september 1892 staat Willem met Willem van der Veen voor de rechter, weer op verdenking van stroperij. Ze worden op 24 september schuldig bevonden en Willem wordt veroordeeld tot een maand gevangenisstraf.
