Derk-Jan was fabrieks afzetter en vertrok 13 Apr 1938 naar de gem Wierden. (omgeving Eversbergweg was toen al gemeente Wierden.)
Vanwege zijn 40 jarige dienstverband bij de KSW (Koninklijke Stoom Weverij) is Derk-Jan gedecoreerd in de Orde van Oranje Nassau. Derk-Jan is dus op zijn 14e al bij de KSW gaan werken.

Uit de begrafenis toespraak van FJ Staman een klein fragment betreffende DJ Staman, opgetekend door Broer Henny Staman.
"Het is 9 April 1945, in de buurtschap Kollenstaart, waar wij als kinderen Staman, zijn geboren en opgegroeid, zijn wij in de afgelopen nacht bevrijdt van onze oosterburen.
Van onze vader, die via Amersfoort en Vucht, in een werkkamp nabij Hannover in Duitsland is terechtgekomen, weten we in de chaos van de naoorlogse dagen niet, of hij nog leeft of waar hij zich bevindt, pas op tweede Pinksterdag, komt tante Mina uit Rijssen ons melden, dat zij vader gezien hebben, achter op een grote Amerikaanse truck.

Ons huis aan de Kappertsweg, wordt met bezemen gekeerd, en ondanks het feit dat wij zaterdag nog in de teil zijn geweest, gaan wij opnieuw in bad, krijgen onze zondagse kleren aan, de haren worden in de goede richting gekamd, want vader komt thuis."

nadere informatie over Derk Jan Staman (kampnummer 12265). Wij hebben de heer Staman - als voormalig gevangene van Kamp Amersfoort - in ons archief gevonden. Er is echter weinig informatie aanwezig door het ontbreken van documenten.
Derk Jan Staman werd in het kader van de Arbeitseinsatz opgepakt en op 16 mei 1944 overgebracht naar Kamp Amersfoort.
Op 1 juni 1944 is hij samen met 414 medegevangenen vanaf station Amersfoort op transport gezet naar Hannover waar hij bij de firma HANOMAG (machinebouw) tewerk werd gesteld.
Wij hebben in ons archief geen aanwijzing gevonden dat Derk Jan Staman ook in Kamp Vught heeft gezeten.
