In de familie gaat het verhaal dat Frederik Staman samen met zijn schoondochter Arendina Nieuwenhuis op de fiets naar Amersfoort zijn gegaan om zoon Derk-Jan in kamp Amersfoort te bezoeken. Derk-Jan heeft daar gezeten van 16-05-1944 tot 1 juni 1944. Op 1 juni 1944 werd hij op transport gezet naar een werkkamp bij Hannover.
