Pieter Scheffer komt voor in een politierapport in het Stadsarchief Amsterdam:
- op 10 mei 1940 om 02.00 uur wordt verwezen naar een melding op 9 mei om 23.55 uur waarbij Cornelis Proper, rijwielhersteller, wonende Nieuwendammerdijk 305, per telefoon kennis geeft dat bij hem inbrekers aan het werk waren. Twee agenten zijn derwaarts gegaan. Hij rapporteert bij terugkomst op het bureau dat het achterdeel van het pand dienst doet als rijwielherstelplaats. Ongeveer om 23.45 werd bovenbuurman Pieter Scheffer wakker door het gerinkel van glas. Hij schoof het raam open en zag twee mannen bezig aan het raam van deze werkplaats. Op zijn geroep van dieven namen de mannen de vlucht. Voorzover kon worden nagegaan werd er niets vermist. Er was een ruit uitgesneden dat op een regenbak werd gevonden. Het glas is ter plaatse, voor onderzoek vingerafdrukken, in een kast geborgen.Een verder onderzoek door de agenten naar de daders had geen resultaat.
