In februari 1974 is het echtpaar Labruijere-Voorhaar gegijzeld door een autodief (L. van S.) die, op de vlucht voor de politie, hun huis binnenvluchtte. Toen de politie het huis omsingeld had, ontstond een vuurgevecht. Kort daarna nam de gewapende dader het echtpaar in gijzeling en reed met hen naar Amsterdam. Omdat hij als zeer gevaarlijk bekend stond mocht de politie terwille van het gegijzelde echtpaar niet ingrijpen. De politie raakte het spoor bijster. Op de Keizersgracht in Amsterdam mengde hij zich te voet tussen de mensen. Het echtpaar Labruijere-Voorhaar reed in zijn auto terug naar Hilversum (bronnen: Nederlands Dagblad - De Waarheid).
