[Uit de grote overeenkomst der wapenvoering veler Cranendoncks is aan te nemen, dat ze uit dezelfde familie stammen, waarvan Jan Roelofs de stamvader is. Niet alle verbindingen zijn echter bewezen. De ster in de wapenvoering wijst op een bastaardafstamming, vermoedelijk van het geslacht Van Horne- Altena, dat ongeveer hetzelfde wapen voerde].
