Schip vergaat: drie doden
STOCKHOLM, 27 dec.- De Nederlandse kustvaarder "Antje" (199 ton) is in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag in de Oostzee vergaan. Twee van de vier opvarenden, de kapitein-eigenaar F. Fokkema uit Groningen (61 jaar) en de Portugees Julio N. Lima (19) zijn verdronken. De twee geredden zijn stuurman Philip J.E. Elskamp (20) uit Enschede en de Portugees Pedro Mendes Pereira (26 jaar). Zij zijn met bevroren handen en voeten in Stockholm in een ziekenhuis opgenomen. De twee overlevenden zijn in uitgeputte toestand door een helikopter van de Zweedse marine in een sloep aangetroffen. De Portugees Julio N. Lima was zo uitgeput, dat hij de reddinglijn niet kon grijpen. Hij viel in het water en verdronk. De "Antje" zit aan de grond met het achterschip bijna loodrecht omhoog. Een deel van de lading hout drijft rond. Tegen halfvijf in de ochtend had een Zweeds radiostation noodseinen van de "Antje" opgevangen. Daarin werd gezegd dat het schip water maakte en dadelijk hulp nodig had. Drie Zweedse reddingvaartuigen en een helikopter van de marine snelden te hulp. De "Antje" was het oudste schip van de Nederlandse kustvaarvloot. Het is in 1902 gebouwd.

Van de drie uur, die Elskamp in het ijskoude water heeft gelegen, heeft hij twee uur het hoofd van de kapitein-eigenaar, de 61-jarige F. Fokkema uit Groningen boven water gehouden. Wegens uitputting kon hij dit na twee uur niet langer volhouden. Hij moest de kapitein laten schieten, waarop deze verdronk. De heer Fokkema was niet in staat zichzelf te redden omdat hij tenvolge van de ramp in een shocktoestand verkeerde.
Fokke Fokkema wordt op 5 december 1905 geboren als het derde kind van Jan Fokkema en Anna de Haas. Op 19 januari 1933 trouwt hij te Groningen met Meintje Alkema. Uit het huwelijk worden zeker drie kinderen geboren. Het huwelijk eindigt in 1941 in een scheiding
