Vele oudere Hilversummers zullen hem regelmatig hebben zien rondrijden door het dorp. Jarenlang ging hij vanuit de zaak aan de Havenstraat met aardappelen langs de deur. Hij kwam uit een groot gezin waarvan hij als laatste overbleef.
