Hij was hoep(el)maker (1922) en visser. Hij wordt beschreven als visserman ìmet gouden oorbellenî (op de foto heeft hij inderdaad kleine oorbelknopjes). Hij kwam uit een groot gezin, waarbij zijn vader uit twee huwelijken in totaal 18 kinderen had, waarvan 14 volwassen werd, de meeste met kinderen. Dit is een van de grootste Verloop geslachten uit de Hoeksche Waard. In zijn laatste levensjaar was hij de oudste inwoner van Oud-Beijerland.

Kees Verloop, een achterkleinzoon vermeld over deze oorbellen:

ìÖIk heb me laten vertellen dat dit gedaan werd als
een soort voorzorg dat, mocht een visserman of
varensgezel verdrinken of verongelukken en op onbekend
terrein in den vreemde begraven moest worden, de gouden
oorbellen gebruikt werden om de kosten te dekken.
