Notes about Ermesinde II de Namur - Luxemburg

Afstammeling van K.d.Gr.
Zij huwde in 1197, op 11-jarige leeftijd, met graaf Theobald I van Bar en in 1214 met hertog Walram III van Limburg.
Uit dat tweede huwelijk werd haar opvolger, Hendrik, geboren en met hem begon ook het tweede Luxemburgse huis.
Onder het voorwendsel dat zij als vrouw geen recht had op de bezittingen van haar vader, maakte haar achterneef Filips, zoon van Boudewijn V van Henegouwen, hierop aanspraak.
Vóór zijn dood had haar vader haar echter verloofd met de 28 jaar oudere Theobald I van Bar, die dapper streed om haar bezittingen te verdedigen.
In 1199 werd een compromis gesloten, waarbij Filips het graafschap Namen kreeg en Ermesinde de graafschappen Luxemburg, Durbuy en Laroche (de laatste twee gebieden liggen in het noorden van de huidige Belgische provincie Luxemburg) en de abdijen van Staveloten Malmedy.
Na de dood van Theobald huwde Ermesinde met Walram van Limburg, waardoor haar zoon ook het graafschap Aarlen zou erven.
Ermesinde verleende stadsrechten aan Luxemburg, Echternach en Aarlen.
