Notes about Jacobus Simon van Ulden

Beknopt verslag over het onstaan van het Chr. Onderwijs in Wolfheze, waar Jacobus Simon van Ulden als een van de bestuursleden fungeerde.
In 1914 werd de vereniging voor Gereformeerd Schoolonderwijs opgericht.
Het eerste bestuur besond uit de heren:
ds. H.D. Drenth, dr. Rondo, E. Schipper, J. de Boer en E. Smid
Reeds spoedig hadden zij door hard werken het zover gekregen dat de plannen om een school te stichten verwezenlijkt kon worden. Tussen het schoolbestuur en de voorstanders van Openbaar onderwijs werd een korte doch hevige strijd gevoerd die beslist werd in het voordeel van de School met de Bijbel. Allerlei pogingen om grond te kopen voor de bouw van school mislukten. Of de grond was te duur, of de grond werd geweigerd.
Tenslotte werd de vereninging tot Verpleging van Krankzinnigen in Nederland, bereid gevonden op het stichtingsterrein van "Wolfheze" een stuk grond in erpacht af te staan aan de schoolvereniging.
Een annuiteitslening en verschillende giften, resulteerden erin dat reeds op 15 mei 1915 de school geopend kon worden. Bij de ingebruikneming op 15 mei 1915 installeerde de voorzitter, ds. Drenth, dhr. Schoonderbeek als schoolhoofd en mej. Snoek als onderwijzeres.De school begon met 30 a 40 kinderen. Er werd een suppletiefonds opgericht en na gelijkstelling van Openbaar en Bijzonder onderwijs kan dit in 1920 worden afgeschaft.
