Hermanus was broodbakker . Eerst in Rijnsburg later te Uithoorn en Nieuwer Amstel, maar raakte ( volgens "opsteller familie chroniek" ) door zijn onoppassendheid zodanig in armoede, dat hij dienst nam en als baas timmerman met het schip "Amsterdam" naar Batavia in Ned. Indië voer, welk schip op de zee van Batavia verbrandde en hij op een ander schip overging en toen na afvaart van dien 14 dagen daarna aan boord overleed en aan de haaien werd overgeleverd.
