Kort na de bedijking van de Bontepolder (klaar in 1888), gemeente Terneuzen, stichtten Jacobus van Cadsand en Maria Martha Verhelst een boerenbedrijf in deze nieuwe polder. In 1896 vertrekken ze naar een hofstede in de Oud-Vogelscholpolder, gemeente Terneuzen. Zijn broer Pieter van Cadsand neemt de boerderij in de Bontepolder over.De boerderij in de Oud-Vogelscholpolder werd door Jacobus gepacht. Hij bleef daar tot 1913. Toen werd de boerderij overgenomen door zijn zoon Izaäk van Cadsand. Die deed het bedrijf later over aan zijn zoon Jacobus François van Cadsand die het weer over deed aan zijn zoon in 1976 Izaäk van Cadsand. Dus vier generaties achtereen op dezelfde boerderij. Jacobus van Cadsand (geboren in 1865) stichtten 1913 een boerenbedrijf in de Bontepolder. Hij bleef daar tot 1918.
