Joseph Limburg (1864 -1945) werd geboren in Den Haag als derde kind van een Joodse familie. Hij doorliep de Polytechnische school in Delft. Hij moet een man van enig aanzien zijn geweest gezien de diverse openbare nevenfuncties die hij heeft bekleed. Na de oorlog ontbrak ieder officieel spoor van de gerenommeerde architect. Pas 50 jaar later zou, bij navraag bij de nieuwe bewoners op Limburgs oude adres, duidelijk worden dat hij samen met zijn vrouw is omgekomen bij het geallieerde vergissingbombardement van 3 maart 1945. Een voltreffer op de kelder waar het echtpaar zich verschool, was de oorzaak van dit tragische ongeluk. Limburgs bouwkundige documenten zijn na de oorlog ongeschonden teruggevonden.
