Bertus Postma (1893-1945) werd geboren in Groningen en diende als matroos bij de marine.
In 1918 trouwde hij met de Westkappelse Maatje Heijt, waarna hij in zijn nieuwe woonplaats torenwachter werd, op zowel de grote vuurtoren als het ijzeren torentje.
In 1945 was Postma roeier op een boot die mensen overzette over het gat in de dijk.
Bij een overtocht op 2 augustus 1945 sloeg de boot om waardoor hij verdronk.
