Raadt (Philippus de), 19 Febr. 1763 geb. te Rhoon, waar zijne ouders tot den kleinen landbouwersstand behoorden; hij onderscheidde zich door leerzucht, en werd schoolmeester te Grave. Toen deze stad in 1794 door de Franschen ingesloten werd,vluchtte hij naar Antwerpen en vestigde zich in het volgende jaar te Rotterdam, was daar eerst werkzaam aan de diaconie-school der Waalsche gemeente en richtte daarna eene bijzondere school op voor leerlingen van den aanzienlijken stand. Hijwas een kundig man, een der niet talrijke bezitters der akte van den eersten rang, welke hij den 16 Dec. 1807 door examen verwierf. Zijne geschiedenis hangt samen met die van zijn hieronder vermelden zoon [Petrus]; hij volgde dezen om hem met zijne ervaring bij te staan, en overl. in de nabijheid van Voorschoten 4 Juni 1830.
Misschien is van hem niets meer in druk verschenen dan eene voorlezing, 9en Wynmaand 1811 in het Rotterd. Dept. van 't Nut gehouden, Over de redenen, waarom nog vele schoolonderwijzers zoo onbekwaam zijn voor hun beroep en over het aangenamevan hetzelve, Rott. 1814.
