In februari 1895 wint hij de eerste prijs bij de wedstrijd ton kruipen en turf rapen.
Ca. 1897/1898 vervult hij voor een ander dienstplicht.Hij wordt ingedeeld bij het regiment grenadiers en jagers.
Met het geld dat hij hiermee verdiend koopt hij een tuinderij.
Hij was maatschappelijk behoorlijk actief.
Zo was hij in 1905 medeoprichter van de jongelingsvereniging.
Ook was hij bestuurlijk actief in de verschillende tuinders bonden.
Zijn overlijden in 1928 werd door het veilingbestuur als een groot verlies ervaren
