Na het overlijden van Susanna Kuipers in 1902 hertrouwt Harmannuas Cornelis in Groningen op 10 mei 1903 met Grietje Venema. Grietje is de dochter van Geert Hindriks Venema (opzichter) en Geertje Zaaiman. Grietje Venema is eerder getrouwd geweest op 28 november 1885 in Hoogezand met Roelff van der Laan (olieslagersknecht), waarvan zij gescheiden is op 16 februari 1902 in Winschoten.
Uit dit eerste huwelijk van Grietje Venema met Roelf van der Laan zijn zes kinderen geboren, waarvan reeds drie op jeugdige leeftijd zijn overleden.
Uit het huwelijk van Harmannus Cornelis en Grietje wordt nog een dochter Klasina Gazendam geboren in Groningen op 30 juli 1904.
