Notes about Hermannus Lubertus van Oordt

In 1877 benoemd tot 2e luitenant. Hij doorliep de verschillende rangen en bereikte in 1912 die van generaal. Als zodanig was hij commandant van de Stelling van het Hollandsch Diep en Volkerak. Luit.-generaal tit. 26-8-1920. Leraar Oorlogspolitiek en oorlogsgebruiken aan de Hogere Krijgsschool; directeur (1907-1912). Militair gedelegeerde van de Nederlandse regering bij de Tweede Vredesconferentie (1907) en bij de Conferentie voor de herziening van het oorlogsrecht (1922-1923). Lid van de Commissie voor herziening van het militair onderwijs (1910); Lid van de Commissie van advies over Volkenrechterlijke Vraagstukken van het departement van Buitenlandse Zaken (1917-1929). Hij publiceerde vele artikelen op o.a. militair en staatkundig gebied.
Ridder in de Orde van Oranje Nassau (1902); ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw (1909). Officier Legioen van Eer (1911); posthuum bevorderd tot commandeur, waarmee hij op zijn doodsbed door de Franse gezant werd onderscheiden. Dit ontving hij voor zijn werkzaamheden ter bevordering van de relatie tussen Nederland en Frankrijk.
Mede-oprichter van de Vereeniging der Familie Van Oordt in 1886; voorzitter van 1916 tot 1927. Administrateur van de Groene Balsem (1916-1919). Een levensbeschrijving van de hand van zijn dochter, Anna Petronella, met een bibliografie van zijn publicaties, verscheen in het Gedenkboekje 1936, blz. 23.
