Fries Zaal trouwde met Marrigje Broere, geboren op 20 januari 1892 te Nieuwkoop. Fries Zaal beoefende eerst het beroep van broodbakker in het ouderlijk huis, Ridderbuurt 53, later leerde Fries het beroep van kelner, wat hij uitoefende in het Nutsgebouw te Alphen aan den Rijn.

Fries en Marrigje kregen drie kinderen: Gerritje Hendrika, Willem Arie en Bonaventura Adrianus Cornelis. Fries Zaal overleed te Alphen aan den Rijn op 8 september 1974.
