Uit :De Tijd, 15 mei 1954: De heer J.C. van Burg, burgemeester van de gemeente Waarde heeft wegens het bereiken van de pensioengerechtigde leeftijd met ingang van 1 september ontslag aangevraagd.

Proces-Verbaal Luchtbeschermingsdienst Gemeente Waarde. Op vrijdag, 9 april 1943 omstreeks 12.20 uur is in de gemeente Waarde (Zeeland), op de grens van de perceelen kadastraal bekend sectie A no.203 en sectie A no.211, gelegen aan den Breeweg een Duitsch vliegtuig (jachttoestel) neergestort. De piloot, die de eenige inzittende was, werd zwaar gewond en hij is met een ambulance van de Duitsche Weermacht weggebracht. Eenigen tijd nadat het vliegtuig was neergestort, waren leden van de Duitsche Weermacht van de Post Waarde en van andere gemeenten ter plaatse aanwezig. Het terrein, waarop het vliegtuig is neergestort (perceelen bouwland) is licht beschadigd. Het vliegtuig is voor een groot gedeelte vernield. Het terrein, waarop het vliegtuig terecht kwam, is afgezet en wordt bewaakt door leden van de Duitsche Weermacht, die bij omwonenden zijn ingekwartierd. Waarvan door mij, Jan Cornelis van Burg, geboren op 17 augustus 1889 te Bergen op Zoom, Burgemeester en Politiegezagsdrager der gemeente Waarde, dit proces-verbaal is opgemaakt op den eed, bij de aanvaarding van mijn ambt afgelegd en besloten op 9 april 1943 De Burgemeester voornoemd.
