    grafschrift: Tijdens de laatste oorlogswinter (1944-1945) overleden op de Willem Arntz Hoeve (te Den Dolder) en alhier begraven. In dit graf zijn nog 11 andere personen begraven.

    Willem Arntsz Hoeve, de vergeten slachtoffers
    Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog verbleven psychiatrische patiënten onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden in de Willem Arntsz Hoeve in Den Dolder. Opmerkelijk veel van hen kwamen om het leven. Pas recent is daar research naar gedaan. Maarten van Rossem ging erover in gesprek met onderzoeker Cecile aan de Stegge.
    Onder bevel van de Duitsers werden al snel na de bezetting alle gestichten aan de Nederlandse kuststreek ontruimd. De patiënten werden verdeeld over diverse inrichtingen in het land. In juni 1942 kwamen de eerste evacuees aan bij de Willem Arntsz Hoeve in Den Dolder. Op de hoeve moest voor 1019 patiënten een plaats worden ingeruimd, waardoor het aantal bewoners verdubbelde.
    Tijdens de oorlog hebben de patiënten er onder erbarmelijke omstandigheden moeten leven. De sterfte in de psychiatrie was al erg hoog – in de jaren '30 ongeveer zes procent per jaar – en begin jaren '40 steeg het cijfer naar 30 procent. In Den Dolder hebben 1163 patiënten de oorlog niet overleefd. De gebouwen waren niet berekend op het intensieve gebruik. De inrichting kreeg niet voldoende voedselbonnen en bovendien mocht er niet worden gestookt. De patiënten van de Willem Arntsz Hoeve werden onder meer ingezet om bomen te kappen voor de verkoop.
