Hij woonde in Tuindorp (toen nog gemeente Maartensdijk) waar hij filiaalhouder was van bakkerij De Korenschoof. Toen deze sloot, is hij in 1938 broodbezorger geworden voor Bakkerij De Gooijer. (Rijk de Gooijer Sr). De Gooijer was meesterbakker bij de korenschoof en was na de sluiting voor zichzelf begonnen. Later werd dit de Lubro.
