"In 1773 arriveerde zekere WILLEM HENDRIK van OMMEREN in PARAMARIBO met het zeilschip “De Resolutie”. In het scheepsjournaal stond achter zijn naam ‘obligatie’, wat zoveel betekent als ‘gedeporteerd’. Vrijwillig kwam hij zeker niet, deze oudste zoon van president-schepen van BAKEL. Het jaar daarvoor had een groot steekpenningenschandaal het leven van WILLEM en zijn familie totaal overhoop gegooid. Zijn vader was gearresteerd, hun bezittingen verbeurd verklaard, zijn moeder van ellende en schaamte gestorven. Hij zelf had zijn vrijheid alleen maar kunnen behouden door akkoord te gaan met verbanning naar SURINAME, samen met zijn jongste broertje PETER, nog maar drie jaar oud. Ook achter de naam van PIETERTJE stond het smadelijke ‘obligatie’ in het scheepsjournaal.
