Notes about Bartholomeus Alvarez-Hoemaker

Bartholomeus wordt op 31 september 1636 benoemd tot kapitein in een compagnie voetknechten. Hij werd in 1645 benoemd tot commandeur van Neuzen.

Op zijn brief van 18 Junij 1635 aan de Staten-Generaal is de onderste helft van zijn lakstempel nog aanwezig. Hij voerde nagenoeg hetzelfde wapen als de Hertog van Alva. Misschien geloofde hij in de afstamming van de hertog van Alva; mogelijk ook heeft hij dit wapen maar aangenomen wegens de overeenkomst van de namen.

Bij een doopakte van 1636 voert hij als getuige het predikaat van Jonkheer.

Volgens huwelijksregister, aanwezig in het kerkelijk archief der Nederduits Hervormde Gemeente te Vlissingen, huwt hij aldaar op 24 Augustus 1619 als Bartholomeus Alvers, 'vendrich onder de compagnie van den commandeur Hoemaker' (zijn vader) met Joffrouw Sara de Maelpas, wonend te Delft in Holland. Zij was een dochter van den kapitein Dominique de Maulpas.

Bartholomeus overleed 25 Mei 1661 als commandeur te Neuzen, en zijn vrouw aldaar op 10 Mei 1655. Hun grafzerk is 1863 nog in het kerkgebouw der Hervormde gemeente te zien. Helaas zijn bij de verbouwing van deze kerk in 1885 alle zerken overdekt met een laag aarde, waarover de nieuwe vloer is aangebracht. Hierdoor is de daarop wellicht voorkomende geboortedatum en familiewapen niet meer te achterhalen.
