In zijn tijd met 36.000 pond de rijkste boer van het eiland IJsselmonde, voornamelijk vanwege het vermogen van zijn vrouw. Landbouwer op de waarschijnlijk door hem gestichte hofstede "de hooge werf" aan de Kerkstraat te Poortugaal (later ten onrechte "het Jagdhuys van de graven van Egmond" genoemd).
