Notes about Tobias Barhorst

Records for this family are found at three churches - the first son, Tobias, at Damme, the next two - Johann Arnold and Johann Heinrich - at Holdorf, and the remaining ones at Steinfeld. The family lived the entire time at one farm - Wiewerig farm - as the latter church records indicate that Tobias was required to take on the Weiwerig farm name ("genant Wiewerig") where the Wehebrings lived. Tobias's half-brother, Johann Heinrich Barhorst, inherited the Barhorst Farm. Tobias and Maria Elisabeth were married February 11, 1789, and the wedding was recorded at the Damme Church.

The first two male children seem to be named after their grandparents - the first after the parents. grandfather, the second after the maternal grandfather. The father Tobias was evidently a solder at some point in his life.
