    "Gerbrand (...) legde de verbinding van de Aytta's met Swichum. De bezittingen, die zijn vrouw Jets Boekama als bruidsschat had meegekregen, lagen daar. Na zijn huwelijk bouwde hij er een voor die tijd voorname behuizing. Gerbrands huwelijkwas kinderrijk. Jets Boekama schonk het leven aan zes dochters en vier zonen, van wi er √©âˆš©n stierf voor het bereiken van de huwbare leeftijd. Het geluk zijn kinderen volwassen te zien worden, heeft Gerbrand echter niet gesmaakt. Toen hij in1484 overleed, was de jongste, Folkert, nog maar vier maanden." Notes about Gerbrant Ferckes Van Aytta


In 1440 boer te Roordahuizum op Idsingastate (SFA).
Gerbrant is overleden in 1484 omtrent het feest van St.Mattheus (21 september) volgens het boekje “Vita Viglii” pagina 5 (noot SFA).
Hij liet na zijn overlijden uit zijn huwelijk met Jets 10 kinderen na, 4 zoons en 6 dochters (Genealogia Ayttana, hierna G.A.).
Gerbrant had ook nog een natuurlijke zoon Jouw (G.A.).

Sj. De Zee vermeldt ook 10 kinderen, maar i.p.v. van Sydz heeft hij His. Abma vermeldde ook His en niet Sydz. Gerbrandus had 'n buitenechtelijke zoon Jouw, welk in Grouw 'n zoon Gerbe en 'n docther Aetna naliet.
Volgens het Aardrijkskundig woordenboek van van der Aa zou Gerben de Aytta-state gebouwd hebben in Swichum: "AYTTA, voorm state, prov. Friesland, kw. Oostergoo, griet. Leeuwarderadeel, in het d. Swichtum, gebouwd door Gerben van Aytta, dengrootvader van den geleerden Viglius Zwichenius ab Aytta (Wigle van Aytta van Swichtum), en later door dezen laatsten bewoond, maar waarvan thans nauwelijks de sporen meer aanwezig zijn, daar zij in 1794 afgebroken is."
