Israel Abrahams Lazarus was de Groninger stamvader van het geslacht Israels.
Zijn zoon Levie Israels ging in 1758 in ondertrouw met Frouke Jacobs Fles, Verdooner en Snel, Trouwen in
Mokum, I, 164.

Een kind van dit echtpaar, Abraham Levie Israels, trad in 1793 te Groningen in
het huwelijk met Judith Levie Pinto, GAG RA III ij d.d. 25.5.1807.
Hun in 1796 te Groningen geboren zoon Hartog Abrahams Israels (Naftali Hartog ben Abraham) trouwde met de Leeuwarder drogistendochter Mathilde Polak; zij waren de ouders van de bekende Groninger
schilder Jozef Israels.

In de studie van Derksen, Opkomst en ondergang, komt Israel Abrahams Lazarus niet voor als
inwoner van Meppel. Overigens komt Derksen wel tot de conclusie, dat veel van de
joden in Meppel zich vanuit Amsterdam in dit stadje hadden gevestigd.
