Notes about Anna "Annie" Mawhin

Annie Mawhin is geboren op 30 september 1924 en opgegroeid in café ’t Haantje aan de markt in Maastricht waar haar vader Lambertus mawhin (Lem) kastelein was. Ze had 2 zusjes, Marie en Truus.

Naar school ging ze niet graag. Vooral als er breiles op het programma stond moest haar oudste zus Marie haar naar school slepen
Later als volwassene heeft ze wonder boven wonder toch veel vesten en truien gebreid. Zelfs op een breimachine.

Op 18 jarige leeftijd kreeg ze van haar ouders een piano en mocht ze pianoles volgen. Daar heeft ze heel veel jaren plezier aan beleefd totdat ze op oudere leeftijd niet meer piano kon spelen door de reuma.

Na de lager school heeft ze eerst thuis in het huishouden meegeholpen en moest op 24 jarige leeftijd haaraan tbc lijdende moeder Martha verzorgen, zij was de enige in het gezin omdat ze in haar kinderjaren tbc had gehad.
Later hielp ze mee in het café.

In 1947 heeft ze Sjeng leren kennen bij de dansgelegenheid Capri gelegen aan het Hendrik van Veldekeplein in Maastricht.
Op 29 december 1948 zijn ze getrouwd voor de wet. Ze hebben eerst een paar jaar op de Jekerweg gewoond, omdat ze nog niet konden gaan wonen in hun gekochte woning aan de Heerdergroenweg 22. Daar zaten huurders in. Op de Jekerweg is in 1952 hun zooon Sjef geboren.
In 1953 konden ze eindelijk in hun huis Heerdergroenweg 22 gaan wonen.
Hier hebben ze ongeveer 60 jaar gewoond en is dochter Marij in 1955 geboren.
De grote tuin bij hun huis was hun lust en hun leven. Sjeng plantte groente en fruit, waarvan door Annie veel werd ingemaakt of verwerkt tot jam.
Met de buitenwereld had ze weinig contact. Alleen haar gezin telde, waar ze zich altijd veel zorgen om maakte.

Haar hobby’s waren lezen, handwerken, koken en bakken. koken en bakken kon ze goed. De linzevlaai van oma stond op verjaardagen hoog aangeschreven en
werd als eerste verslonden,

Ze heeft 4 lieve kleinkinderen gekregen: Myriam, Petra, Madeleine en Simone.

15 jaar geleden begon bij haar de reuma en die heeft haar in de loop van de jaren lichamelijk zo ernstig beperkt dat ze bijna niets meer kon. Dat frustreerde haar vaak erg.

Op 6 juli 2012 is ze met Sjeng verhuisd naar het verzorgingstehuis "de Molenhof" in de sint pietersstraat te maastricht.
Een 2 persoonskamer met uitzicht op het stadspark.
Ze vond dit eerst heel moeilijk maar langzaam raakte ze toch gewend.
De laatste weken ging ze lichamelijk steeds harder achter uit. Kon niet meer eten. Het smaakte niet meer.
Op 19 januari 2013 is ze vroeg in de morgen in haar slaap overleden.
