Notes about Johannes "Sjeng" Janssen

Sjeng was zondag 17 februari opgenomen in het ziekenhuis AZM, met klachten over benauwdheid.
Dinsdag werden de klachten heviger en de dagen erna ging zijn gezondheid snel achteruit.
Op zondag 24-02-2013 om 13.25 uur is hij in het bijzijn van al zijn familieleden overleden.
Deze zondag viel zo'n 7-10 cm sneeuw
De crematie van Sjeng, samen met de as van Annie vindt plaats op vrijdag 29-02-2013 in het crematorium in Eijsden.

Opa (Sjeng) is op 7 juli 1920 op Hoog Frankrijk in Maastricht geboren.
Naderhand is het gezin verhuisd naar de Statensingel 29 in Maastricht.
Hij had een zus en twee broers. Zijn zus is op 10 jarige leeftijd overleden
aan longontsteking.
Als kind speelde hij vaak in de Werken gelegen bij de statensingel.

Hij kon zo goed leren dat de directeur van de lagere school aan het eind
van de zesde klas bij zijn ouders thuis kwam met het advies om deze zoon
vooral door te laten leren. Helaas hadden zijn ouders niet veel geld en konden
niet op dit advies ingaan. Opa moest dus op 13 jarige leeftijd gaan werken.

In de tweede wereldoorlog heeft hij geruime tijd voor de duitsers moeten werken.
Zo werkte hij o.a bij een bakker en kreeg hij als loon brood. Met een gedeelte
van dit brood ging hij naar de boer en ruilde het brood voor een portie aardappels.

In 1947 leerde hij in dancing Capri gelegen aan het Hendrik van Veldekeplein in
Maastricht Annie kennen, waarmee hij op 29 december 1948 mee is getrouwd.
Ze kregen 2 kinderen: Sjef (1952) en Marij (1955).
De eerste jaren woonden ze aan de Jekerweg 103 in Maastricht, daarna 60 jaren
aan de Heerdergroenweg 22 in Maastricht.

Opa heeft tot 1968 als hoedenmaker in hoedenfabriek Dassen gelegen aan de
Jodenstraat in Maastricht gewerkt.
Als oma een nieuw hoedje wilde nam hij een hele doos vol mee naar huis en kon
zij op haar gemak hier een of twee hoedjes van uitkiezen. Dochter Marij vond dit
als klein meisje ook wel leuk om hoedjes te passen en deed met ma mee.
In 1968 ging de hoedenfabriek failliet en vond hij opnieuw werk in de magazijnen
van Ven D. Hij moest de afdeling speelgoed verzorgen. Speelgoed met een be-
schadiging die niet meer verkocht mocht worden kon hij voor een lage prijs kopen.

Thuis was zijn grootste hobby het verzorgen van de grote tuin, waar hij heel veel
groente en fruit in teelde en het houden van kippen en konijnen, die hij als ze dik of
oud genoeg waren zelf slachtte. De eerste kip die hij in zijn leven de kop afsloeg
liet hij te vroeg los waardoor de kip zonder kop wegliep en pas naar tientallen meters
dood neer viel.

Opa en oma kregen vier kleindochters: Myriam (1980) Petra (1985) Madeleine (1987)
en Simone (1989).

In 1979 kreeg oma reuma. Dit werd na 2 jaren zo erg dat opa met behulp van oma leerde koken en het huishouden overnam.
Dit ging goed totdat hij in maart 2012 een hartaanval kreeg. Eerst in het Azm en daarna
3 maanden op Klevarie in de Herstelzorg moest verblijven.
Hulp van het Groene Kruis was nodig.
Op 6 juli 2012 zijn ze naar het verzorgingstehuis Molenhof verhuisd.
Helaas hebben zij niet lang van de verzorging kunnen genieten.
Op 19 januari 2013 is oma in haar slaap gestorven en bleef opa na een huwelijk van 64 jaar
erg verdrietig achter. En week na oma’s dood werd ook hij ziek. Kreeg in de daarop volgende
weken verschillende antibioticakuren, maar overleed ondanks al deze goede zorg op 24
februari 2013 in het AZM in Maastricht.
