Op 23 november 1942 nam Frida Simmeren de leiding op zich van het joodse kleuteronderwijs in Amersfoort.

Benedictus Simmeren, wonende aan de Anton Mauvestraat 16 te Amersfoort, heeft zijn toenmalige buren (familie de Gans) verteld dat hij twee mogelijkheden om onder te duiken had afgewezen. De eerste keer omdat het gezin niet bij elkaar kon blijven, de tweede keer uit angst. De buren hebben in 1943 een karaf van het gezin Simmeren gekocht om hen uit acute geldnood te helpen.
