    Op 27 november 1941, rond negen uur ‘s avonds, viel een grote Engelse torpedo-bom op de Maastrichtse wijk Blauw Dorp. De trieste balans: 25 dodenen circa 120 gewonden.Omdat er ruim van te voren luchtalarm was afgegeven waren veel bewoners gaan schuilen in de ondergrondse vestinggangen, die onder het Goeman Borgesiusplantsoen liggen. Anders zouden er zeker nog veel meer slachtoffers zijn gevallen.
    Ruim 140 woningen werden vernield of zwaar beschadigd in het huizenblok tussen de Mr. Ulrichweg, de Gildeweg, de Proostdijweg en de Willem Vliegenstraat.
