    Petrus Janvier zat vier keer een gevangenisstraf uit in Breda. Vier dagen wegens openbare dronkenschap (in 1884 gesnapt en veroordeeld en bijna 1 jaar later in de kraag gevat), twee dagen wegens weerspannigheid (1888), en acht dagen wegens mishandeling (1888). De zwaarste straf werd op 24 oktober 1890 opgelegd door de arrondissementsrechtbank in Middelburg. Wegens mishandeling (opnieuw) moest Petrus Janvier veertien dagen brommen. De weerspannigheid pleegde hij samen met broer Hendricus Janvier (Vd.), zij werden op 23 februari 1888 veroordeeld door de arrondissementsrechtbank in Breda en zaten tegelijkertijd hun straf uit.
    Met de vaststelling van de lichamelijk kenmerken liet het gevangenispersoneel steken vallen. Haar en wenkbrauwen blond, maar zijn ogen verschoten nogal eens van kleur: van bruin naar vervolgens blauw en grijs. In lengte groeide en kromp Petrus: achtereenvolgens gaf de meetlat 1,71, 1,72 en 1,68 meter aan. [Bron: BHIC, Zoeken naar boeven in Brabant]

    "Donderdagavond kwam Piet Janvier van Bergen-op-Zoom, ook hier bekend met de kermisschommels, per tram van Oudenbosch te Gastel aan, doch verzuimde bij den heer Smoor uit te stappen. Toen de tram reeds in beweging was sprong hij er uit, met het noodlottig gevolg dat hij met zijn jas aan den afsluitketting bleef hangen en achterover viel, waardoor hij tusschen den wagen onder den treeplank terecht kwam. Dadelijk werd geroepen en gestopt, doch, helaas! te laat. Bij opname waren zijn kleederen zoo goed als van het lijf gescheurd; in de zijde vertoonden zich diepe wonde[n] en de beenen waren op vier plaatsen gebroken en half ontvleescht. De eerw. geestelijke en de heeren doctoren Dautzenberg en Jansen waren dadelijk aanwezig. Onmiddellijk werden hem de laatste H.H. Sacramenten toegediend. Niettegenstaande de liefderijke verzorging gaf de ongelukkige om acht uur den geest. Janvier was 29 jaar oud en laat eene weduwe met drie kleine kinderen achter, waarvan het jongste slechts eenige dagen oud is.
    De ongelukkige, die als een waarschuwing voorbeeld kan dienen voor zoovelen, was niet tegen ongelukken verzekerd. Maandag wordt zijn lijk te Bergen-op-Zoom begraven." [Bron: De Grondwet 10 januari 1897]
    Door de directie van de tramwegmaatschappij werd aan de weduwe honderd gulden tegemoetkoming toegezegd in de kosten voor de begrafenis. Hiervan moesten ook nog de kosten voor enkele uren verzorging in het gasthuis in Oud-Gastel worden betaald, zijnde veertien gulden. [Bron: Algemeen Handelsblad 20 januari 1897]
