Jan werkte met zijn broer Henk Christiaan in dezelfde ploeg aan de Birma-lijn. Na het overlijden van Jan heeft zijn boer het stoffelijk overschot tot tweemaal toe in een zak op zijn rug meegevoerd naar zijn nieuwe standplaats. Henk wilde dat zijn broer na de oorlog een waardig graf zou krijgen. Jan is begraven op Chungkai war cemetery in Kanchanabur Thailand.
