    Zijn graf werd op 27-5-1653 intact gevonden onder de St. Brixiuskerk te Doornik, met 21 paardenoffers, een complete wapenrusting (zwaard, messen, werpbijl, lans, schild), een muntschat en talrijke juwelen en een gouden stierenkop. Het was duidelijk geen christelijk graf. De schatten werden geschonken aan Lodewijk XIV (die er volgens de overlevering niet blij mee was) en werden in 1831 gestolen. Op enkele stukken na zijn alle juwelen toen omgesmolten. De gouden bijen die op de mantel van Childerik waren gestikt, inspireerden Napoleon bij de symboliek van zijn keizerrijk (bron: Wikipedia).
