-In the 1880 census, John Oosterhaven is living in Zeeland Township with his wife and 4 children and his occupation was listed as carpenter.
-In the 1900 census, John Oosterhaven is living in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife "Hattie" and now 5 children, 3 of which were born in Michigan: "Aggie" (is Eke); Pieter, Reka, born in April 1885; Maggie, born August 1888; John, born December 1893. Jan "John" is a carpenter as occupation.
-In the 1910 census, Jan and his wife Hinke "Hattie" is living in Zeeland Township, Michigan with their youngest child, John, age 17. Jan is listed as a carpenter.
-In the 1920 census, Jan and Hinke are alone and living in Zeeland Township, Michigan as a farmer (I do not know if this is the farm of his father but I doubt it).

Hinke Oosterhaven-Felkers died in 1923.

-In the 1930 census, Jan is living with his son Peter and Peter's wife, Cora. Jan is 82 years old. They are living at 1139 Caulfield SW in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- Jan Oosterhaven died in June of 1942.

Jan and Hinke are buried in the Washington Park Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family has a monument in the cemetery and also buried there are sons Klaas, Paulus, and Pieter.
