secretaris en later lid der hoofdmannenkamer, vervolgens lid der Provinciale rekenkamer en der admiraliteit te Harlingen (1682). In 1693 is hij lid van den Raad van State, ambtman van het Goorecht en drost van het Oldambt, in 1698 lid der admiraliteit van Amsterdam, in 1689 lid der Staten-Generaal en van de Generaliteits Rekenkamer, in 1683 raadsheer en in 1707 burgemeester van Groningen. Als afgevaardigde der Staten-Generaal deed hij dienst bij de onderhandelingen met graaf d'Avaux ter voorkoming van den oorlog over de Spaansche successie (1708), in 1709 bij den handel tot de preliminairen, die destijds voordeelig voor den staat gesloten, doch niet door den vrede gevolgd werden, en in 1713 bij het sluiten van het voorloopig tractaat van barrière met Engeland
