    Voglens oude dorpsverhalen in Acquoy is John Need is in het gevolg van Willem IV van Engeland naar Nederland gekomen.Willem IV had in Acquoy een buitenverblijf waar hij regelmatig op eenden kwam jagen. Op één van zijn reizen naar Acquoy heeft hij corporaal John Need, die deel uitmaakte van het regiment Sir John Coop, meegenomen. John Need leerde in Acquoy Magdalena van de Grient kennen en is daar mee getrouwd. Na de geboorte van zijn zoon Johannes Henricus is John Need weggaan. Volgens het dorpsverhaal is hij toen weer teruggegaan naar Engeland en heeft hij nooit meer iets van zich laten horen.Ik ben nog op zoek naar meer gegevens over hem en zijn familie in Engeland, maar heb tot op heden niets in de Engelse archieven over hem kunnen ontdekken. Wel is het zo dat vanaf het arriveren van John in Nederland de naam Need (met een d) in Nederland ontstaan is. Tijdens mijn onderzoek naar het geslacht Need ben ik geen enkele andere familielijn met dezelfde naam tegengekome(Wel heb ik een persoon met de naam Neet ontdekt die geboren zou zijn in 1507 in Rotterdam. Of dit verwant is aan de naam Need is voor mij niet duidelijk.
