    Kort na de invoering van de Burgerlijke stand was Johannes Henricus Need een veel gevraagd getuige bij het doen van aangifte van geboorten en overlijden. Onder het bewind van Napoleon is in 1811 het inschrijven van geboorten en overlijden verplicht geworden.Deze inschrijvingen bij de Burgerlijke stand moesten in het bijzijn van 2 getuigen worden gedaan op het gemeentekantoor. In het begin kon Johannes Henricus nog niet schrijven en stond onder aan de aangifte dat zowel aangever als getuigen niet konden lezen noch schrijven en dat de akte door de ambtenaar van de Burgerlijke stand was voorgelezen. Maar in 1813 kwam ik in het Rijksarchief de eerst getuige verklaring tegen met daarop een handtekening van Johannes Henricus Need. Hij heeft dus op latere leeftijd de kunst van het schrijven onder de knie gekregen.
