Notes about Cornelis Andreas Koorn (later Kooren)

Het gezin, op de oudste dochter Willempje na, is in 1910 geëmigreerd naar de VS. Zij kwamen op 10-07-1910 aan in New York City met de S.S. Rijndam. De achternaam Koorn is bij binnenkomst in de VS veranderd in Kooren. Alleen Simon en zijn nakomelingen zijn zich Koorn blijven noemen.
Zij hebben zich gevestigd in North Dakota. Op 08-07-1910 kwamen zij daar aan op het Belfield Train Station met een groep van 44 Hollanders (bron: persbericht Belfield Times). De Koorn's gingen werken bij de Belfield Land and Investment Company die later ging heten de Holland-Dakota Land Company, in Nederland bekend als de Holland-Dakota Landbouw Compagnie. In 1919 verhuisde de familie naar een boerderij in de Milnor area. In 1924 gingen zij naar een boerderij ten zuid-westen van South Heart, North Dakota.
In 1929 vertrokken zij naar een stad genaamd Aok Harbor, Washington op Whidbey Island. In de herfst van 1932 gingen zij weer terug naar North Dakota en bleven daar tot 1946. In januari 1947 namen zij de trein naar Seattle, WA. Daar woonden zij tot hun dood bij hun jongste dochter Hendricka (Vivian) en haar man Floyd Smith.
