Wessel Michiels en Aaltjen Scheffers maakten op 19 Augustus 1801 een mutueel testament. Ze bepaalden dat de langstlevende in de "volle possessie" van de nalatenschap zou blijven, zonder verplicht te zijn om een inventaris op te stellen of borgen te stellen. Hun twee zoons en ene dochter zouden gelijk behandeld worden. Hun oudste zoon Jan Kuipers, gehuwd met Amelia Roelfs, woonde bij zijn ouders in. Wessel en Aaltjen wilde dat hij "na haare beider dood in de affaires van haar zal continueren, mits dat dezelve zal moeten gedoogen de inventarisatie en scheiding des boedels door onpartijdige mannen." Jan kreeg niets extra's voor dienstbaarheid of verzorging van zijn ouders. Wel had hij recht op f 150-0-0 vooruit, die hem toekwamen vanwege de door zijn vrouw ten huwelijk ingebrachte goederen.
