Notes about Gerrit Jacobszoon Herwijnen

Pieter Jacobs Herwyne en Jannetje Bastiaans van Driel se seun, Jacob Pietersz. Van Herwynen, is in 1727 gebore. Hy trou in 1757 met Neeltje Tuindert.
In die vergadering van die dykgraaf en heemrade van die polder Zuidland van 19 januarie 1758 is Gerrit Herwynen as watermeulenaar aangestel teen ’n jaarlikse traktement van 100 gulden en 10 ton turf.
Die meule van Zuidland was op daardie stadium slegs twee jaar vantevore voltooi. Die meule was van steen gebou en die deursnee van die wieke was ’n ongelooflike 30 meter. Hierdie geweldige meule het water uit die polder Zuidland en die naasliggende polder Velgersdijk gepomp.
Gerrit en sy gesin het in die meule gewoon. Na sy eerste vrou, Neeltje, se dood hertrou hy in 1767 met Lena de Raaf.
Gerrit was tot minstens 1787 watermeulenaar.

In 1789 word melding gemaak van die watermeulenaar Jacob Herwynen. Hy was ’n seun van Gerrit Herwynen en was tot 1825 watermeulenaar.
