De Nederlandse familie Welschen is oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit Millen (D), een bij Sittard gelegen kerkdorpje in het vroegere Land van Gulik, thans deel van de gemeente Selfkant (Noordrijnland-Westfalen). Vanaf de 17de tot in de 19de eeuw heeft zij hoofdzakelijk daar, en ook wel in het naburige Höngen (eveneens gemeente Selfkant), gewoond.

Reinier Welschen [geboren te Millen (toen in het Franse Departement van de Roer, kanton Sittard[1], thans in de Duitse gemeente Selfkant) 11-5-1801 -- overleden te Rotterdam 10-10-1871] vestigde zich in of rond 1830 te Rotterdam en huwde daar op 13-1-1836 Maria Eva Welschen-Coenen [Elen (B) 27-5-1810 - Rotterdam 26-6-1891], afkomstig uit het Maasdorp Elen onder Maaseik (Belgisch Limburg). Van hen zijn alle latere Nederlandse Welschens nakomelingen.[2]

      RAL-LvO 1757, 217r: Op 13 maart 1728 kocht de ongehuwde Henderijck Eggen 58 roeden en 11 voet akkerland in de Haversdelle onder Nuth, grenzend aan Jan Timmers en Geurt Snackers voor 25 stuivers per roede van Lambert Heijnen, inwoner van Schimmert en gehuwd met Maria Voncken.

      RAL-LvO 1759, 78r: Op 21 februari 1752 verkocht Henderijck Eggen, gehuwd met Maria Oomste, land aan Matthijs Schetters, gehuwd met Catharina Dormans. Het ging om een weide, groot een morgen en zes roeden, gelegen Terstraten onder Nuth, grenzend aan Paulus Meijs, Thomas Maes, het veld en de gemene weg. Iedere roede kostte twee gulden en tien stuivers.

      RAL-LvO 1760, 167r: Op 19 maart 1770 verkocht Hendrick Eggen, weduwnaar Maria Omstee, bijgestaan door zijn twee meerderjarige, nog ongehuwde kinderen Cornelia en Matthis Eggen, land aan Laurens Meijs, gehuwd met Margaretha Donners. Het betrof 58 roeden akkerland op de Beckerweg onder Nuth, grenzend aan de erfgenamen Claes Snackers, Gereth Timmers en de erfgenamen Nicolaes a Campo. De prijs bedroeg twee gulden per roede. Bepaald werd dat de verkopers het nog bezaaide land mochten oogsten maar kaf en stro voor de koper moesten achterlaten.

      SAH-Archief Nuth inv. 1, 259: In het schatboek van Nuth (ca. 1772) stonden voor Hendrijck Eggen van Helle de volgende goederen geregistreerd:
      1. een morgen en 78 1/4 roeden akkerland "op den sijpenbergh", noordwaarts wed. Joannes Gijsen, oostwaarts de weg, zuidwaarts Joannes Schuls, westwaarts de vloedgraaf, belast met kapitteltienden te Aken en       tiende aan de pastoor, gewaardeerd 13 gulden 9 stuivers
      2. 90 roeden akkerland op de Trichterweg, noordwaarts de weg, oostwaarts Gabriel Limpens, zuidwaarts Joannes Beckers, westwaarts Joannes Ackermans, belast met kapitteltienden te Aken en tiende aan de pastoor, gewaardeerd 6 gulden 7 stuivers
      3. 90 1/2 roeden akkerland aan de Beckerweg, noordwaarts de schoonzoon van Nicolaes Kounen, oostwaarts de weg, zuidwaarts en westwaarts Maerten a Campo, belast met kapitteltienden te Aken en tiende aan de pastoor, gewaardeerd 6 gulden 9 stuivers
      4. een morgen 38 1/4 roede akkerland "omtrent den graef", noordwaarts Dirck Leunissen, zuidwaarts Losija Meijs, oostwaarts Gertruijd Eggen, westwaarts Joannes Beckers, belast met kapitteltienden te Aken en tiende aan de pastoor, gewaardeerd 9 gulden 11 stuivers
      5. 50 roeden akkerland " op den langen morgen", noordwaarts de Trichterweg en Joseph Meijs, oostwaarts Nicolaus Rousop, zuidwaarts Hermen Snackers, westwaarts Joannes Ackermans, belast met tiende aan de pastoor, gewaardeerd 4 gulden
      6. een morgen land achter Helle, noordwaarts Gertruijd Eggen, oostwaarts Willem Raeven, zuidwaarts en westwaarts Joannes Raeven, belast met kapitteltienden te Aken en tiende aan de pastoor, gewaardeerd 7 gulden 1 stuiver
