Notes about Hendrika Weijers

Riek was als jong meisje, al keukenhulp bij een rijke familie in Delft. Daar leerde zij Reinier kennen. Ze raakte in de ban van de roodharige goedgebekte Reinier en toen ze van hem in verwachting raakte “moesten” ze wel trouwen (1917). Reinier kreeg een baan in Zaandam waar dochter Johanna Harmina werd geboren (1918). Zij kon echter niet wennen aan de westerse mentaliteit, miste haar gezellige, warme familie heel erg en kwam met man en kind terug naar Deventer. In haar huis aan de Boxbergerweg in Deventer voelde ze zich thuis. Haar tweede dochter Riek werd geboren(1920) in Deventer. Ze kon heerlijk koken en zong veel met de liedjes van de radio mee. Haar dominante man maakte haar leven er niet makkelijker op. Door haar slechte gezondheid moesten de beide dochters na schooltijd en later na hun eigen werk thuis veel werk doen. Ze breide veel, hield van gezelligheid en iedereen kwam graag bij haar op bezoek. Met verjaardagen was het altijd feest, als de hele familie Weijers op bezoek kwam, dan werd er onder het genot van een "Jenevertje" met suiker en eigengemaakte "Boerenjongens" veel voorgedragen. De kelder stond meestal ook vol met o.a. : eigengemaakte jam, zure bommen, bonen in het zout, zuurkool en de nodige weckpotten vol met fruit en groenten. Op het moment van overlijden waren ze reeds 46 jaar gehuwd.
