Hugo was het vierde van de twaalf kinderen van Levi Löwenhardt en Pauline Löwenhardt-Lennhoff. Hij was metaalarbeider in het Rughgebiet en trouwde op 17 juni 1901 in Hemer met Josephine Eggener uit Wehr. Het echtpaar kreeg twee kinderen, Hertha/Netta (Hemer 30 juni 1902/3) en Harri (Plettenberg-Eiginghausen 20 februari 1907).

Hugo en Josephine werden op 23 september 1942 in Treblinka vermoord. Hertha stierf op 23 december 1944 in het concentratiekamp Stutthof. Alleen Harri ontkwam naar Engeland, waar hij in de oorlog trouwde en een gezin stichtte.
