    Het oorlogsmonument in Holten (gemeente Rijssen-Holten) is opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan zes Nederlandse soldaten die in de meidagen van 1940 in de strijd tegen de bezetter gesneuveld zijn, aan 38 joodse medeburgers en verzetsmensen die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog door oorlogshandelingen om het leven zijn gekomen en aan twee plaatsgenoten die bij de strijd in voormalig Nederlands-Indië zijn omgekomen.

Notes about Betje Berg

Op 10 September 1943 werd Betje Berg met vijf van haar kinderen naar kamp Westerbork afgevoerd. Zij moesten verblijven in barak 70. Volgens de registratiekaart van de Joodse Raad heeft Betje Gazan-Berg pogingen ondernomen om vrijstelling van deportatie te verkrijgen. Op 18 September 1943 luidt een aantekening op haar registratiekaart:

Verzoek ingediend op grond gemengd huwelijk. Verzoek om vrijstelling Rijksinspectie dat man J II en kinderen J I van gemeentehuis Holten 11/9. Gelieve Mr. S.J. Hamming, Boomkamp 12 in Rijssen in te lichten omtrent gunstige beslissing. 13/9. Op 17 September komt bericht van het gemeentebestuur van Holten dat een beslissing van de Rijksinspectie daar niet bekend is. En op 23 September 1943 volgt een schrijven van Mr. Hamming dat een beslissing van de Rijksinspectie nog niet is gekomen.

Dat dit alles tot niets heeft geleid blijkt uit het feit dat Betje met haar vijf kinderen uiteindelijk op 8 Februari 1944 toch naar Auschwitz zijn gedeporteerd en daar direct bij aankomst op 11 Februari 1944 zijn vermoord.
