    Het monument 'Het Verstoorde Leven' in Deventer is opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan alle joodse medeburgers die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog door oorlogshandelingen om het leven zijn gekomen, waaronder Etty Hillesum, die op 30 november 1943 in Auschwitz door de bezetter om het leven is gebracht. Daarnaast dient het gedenkteken als waarschuwing tegen hedendaagse vormen van discriminatie.

Simon had in 1942 een functie bij het begrafeniswezen. S.M. van Spiegel, de boekhouder, wordt op 27 jan. 1943 vermeld als voormalig lid van het schoolbestuur van de Joodse School. Op dat moment is hij al 'geèevacueerd'
Simon (zie foto ) was kantoorbediende. Hij was getrouwd met Marianne Gosschalk, die ook in Deventer was geboren. Zij hadden een dochtertje Espérance, ook wel Spransje genoemd, en woonden op de Eerste Pauwelandstraat. Het hele gezin is vermoord n Auschwitz op 16 juli 1943.
