Hendrik Jan Ankersmit (III) , geboren te Deventer op 6 november 1834, ging kort na 1860 met zijn twee broers in de zaak van zijn vader en was betrokken bij de opbouw van de nieuwe fabriek.
Hij was gemeenteraadslid van Deventer van 1873 tot 1901.
Ontwikkeld de WASDRUK in Ankersmits textielfabrieken.
Hendrik Jan (IV) voegde na een studie en promotie in de chemie in Zwitserland een succesvolle textieldrukkerij toe aan het bestaande textielbedrijf. De drukkerij specialiserde zich onder zijn leiding in de fabricage van imitatiebatiks voor West Afrika.
